BBS CH fitment
« on: October 03, 2013, 12:38:29 pm »
Hi everyone,

I've currently got a set of genuine BBS CH 18 x 8 and et50 for my mk5 GTI, VW have told me that the PCD appears different and that the bolts only go in approx 3-4 turns and that I need bolts which are approx 7mm longer.

Can anyone advise on the matter, as I thought that these were a straight fit for a mk5?

Cheers,
Leon

What pcd are your rims? The standard vw one is 5x112
Without traction power is nothing!

Did you read my guide on wheel fitment?
You are paying a dealer to fit wheels?????

Have you measured how far the bolt comes out of the back of your standard wheels vs how far they come out of your BBS wheels?
Have you attempted to fit them to see the PCD? Where did you buy them, what were they advertised as?

Are the bolt-seat types different between the wheels? Most aftermarket wheel bolt types are different.

If people checked before they did things there would be less surprises for everyone!

Aftermarket CH types, 5x112
Aftermarket CH's have "motorsport" stamped into the metal around the center and other descriptors on the lip. They only come in Diamond Silver (also known as Bright Silver) or Black with Stainless Lip. All real non-OEM BBS wheels require BBS PFS hubcentric rings and conical lugs. The lower offset fitments have 5 small holes around the center bolt pattern, as Mercedes requires them for wheel alignment.
CH023: 17x7.5 et42. Brilliant Silver. Without alignment holes.
CH003: 17x8.5 et35 Brilliant Silver. With alignment holes.
CH025: 18x8 et50. Brilliant Silver, Black. Without slignment holes.
CH012: 18x8.5 et35. Brilliant Silver, Black. With alignment holes. 26lbs

If yours are genuine BBS kin 5x112 fitment, they appear to be CH025 - so you would need to measure the differences in how much the bolt sticks out, and order the conical bolt types of the correct length.

Be aware that most replica BBS CH for the mk5 use the CH025 marking as well. They are 18x8 but come in offset ET44/45 so will be different. They are easy to identify on the back as mention  above.

18x8 et50 is a genuine BBS CH size in 5x112 which would make sense. From what information we have they appear to be genuine.

As others have said, most vw bolts have a rounded type head, whilst after market ones need a v shaped one

Cheers bud. I didn't read your post as I bought them from someone on here who said they were a straight fit and I hadn't noticed when running with them.

No I'm not, I'm having warranty work done and they spotted it while it was in. I can change my wheels myself bud  :happy2:

Can anyone recommend the best place to get conical bolts?

I'm going to get the genuine spigot rings from PW Motorsport.

Thanks for your help guys.

You can buy bolts from anywhere really.

However I bought the ones for my Mercedes wheelsfrom Damian @ DPM Performance. You can buy them cheapy-cheap from Ebay but I prefer paying a little more from a decent company. Right first time not 6th time.

I would probably fit the wheels yourself - Dealers like to break things and then blame other people or things. For example if they scuff it they'd say because the PCD was wrong or whatever crappy excuse.

Get the wheels back, pop one of yours off, check the amount of bolt sticking out from the back of the wheel on your stock wheels VS the CH's.

Then obviously buy bolts of the correct length  :innocent:

Check first that you do need the conical bolts before buying and fitting them.
Just because someone on here says that the wheels needs them does not mean that they do.
You just need to look into the wheel bolt area and see the shape of the taper, that will determine the type you need.
I have run incorrect bolts which sheared the wheel off whilst driving, so make sure you get it right rather than being told what you need.

That is true Al.

However aftermarket wheels (non OEM) require Conical bolts. 99.9% of the time.
BBS CH's are an aftermarket wheel.
BBS themselves state all their non-OEM fitment wheels need conical lugs.
Ergo you will need conical lugs in this situation!

If they are genuine as the guy says those are the bolts he needs.
