No you don't need it coded.
HOWEVER you will need Vagcom to code the new can gateway.
Vagcom can be picked up for £75 for non genuine (they work fine).

I've found one for sale it says that you don't need the can bus gateway part due to it being the new software version is this correct?

This is what he said: All wires and cables yes, no instructions or orig box you get everything you see in the pics as stated. It Came out of a 2008 car and worked fine in my 2004 mk5 golf with no battery drain for years

Taken out of my GOLF MK5 and in full working order when I removed it,this was only cos I changed my car.

What do you guys think will this just be plug and play?

Please don't endorse the use of non-genuine VCDS.

I used Hazzydayz, did a great job and charge by the hour if you supply parts. Also when there was a tpms issue they came and spent ages sorting it with no issues at all.

I tried a few recommended people on here but guess they were busy as not one responded.

I got highline, mfsw, tpms and cruise done. Went with the kenwood unit in the end but have seen that fixing in a second hand unit isn't too tough.

My ED30 is May 2007 , i put in a RNS510 which was brand new , it came from Lithuania or similar , it is the genuine article and cost me £600. It is simple to fit and i didn't need any Canbus update either . Eddie - NL is the one to go to . Don't bother with the MF buttons either , whats the point ? Everthing is within arms length anyway ! Cruise is a little more difficult and Eddie did mine

People can use what they want and you and I can't force them!
I am not "endorsing" the use of it. I'm making a factual statement (that it works fine) and offering a different suggestion. I would recommend using Genuine VAGCOM as you get all the updates and latest codings as well as the support of Rosstech which is great but not everyone can afford £280.

Hi dude
As long as you have the radio code yes should plug straight in.
If you want the directions to show in your full height cluster then you'd need VAGCOM.

Also as the battery drain yes there is a certain version of Firmware that will negate the need to change the gateway.
If you do still get drain yes you would need to change the gateway however there is a bodge you can do with the fusebox for a temporary fix.

No but they can be advised to either use a genuine lead or to contact a member that has one and is willing to help. There is a list on here in the VCDS section.

If everyone used non-genuine cables there would be no Ross Tech or the need for them to develop as VAG change their models then where would we be?
