Best standard fit speakers for RCD510?
« on: September 15, 2013, 01:27:22 pm »
Afternoon,

I just fitted an RCD510 and while impressed with the sound difference from my old RCD500, the sound quality isn't quite what I want, its nice and clear but not quite deep enough.

I don't want to go fitting amps etc, I just want to replace with standard fit speakers which don't require any mods. I will just leave the standard 4 tweeters inplace and just replace the main speakers of which there are 4, so I'm not after a component set. What would people suggest?

Yeh the sound is good but not quite deep and full enough for me. I have 8 speakers I think, a tweeter and main speaker in each corner.

What exactly do you mean by not deep enough? Is it low bass you’re after?

Changing to normal speakers won’t improve the quality much unless you go for the 3 way components.

Its a richer sound I'm looking for. I'm not after eyeball rattling bass, but a little more would be nice. The treble and mid range or ok but the bass on the oem speakers sounds a bit hard and tight, so I'd like that to be a little softer.

I know I can't as for miracles without installing an amp at least, but I just can't be bothered with that any more. If I can find a speaker, maybe coaxial, that would be a big improvement on the oem ones, that the stereo would power ok, I'd probably be happy.

Also I don't want to have to run new speakers wires etc, just use the original ones. This obviously would restrict the sound a bit but the must be something out there half decent that would suit.

In order for the bass to be softer you need a system that has low bass frequency or an amp to do it for you. Standard systems have bass frequency of around 100Hz. Get a system that allows you to change the frequency with the standard speakers and it will sound better then having changed the speakers whcih wont really make much of a difference except the mid range that will sound more clearer.

Im not an expert but I had similar issues. Got myself an aftermarket system which allows me to take the frequency down to 60Hz and it sound 100 times better now.

Thats interesting, I never thought along those lines. I'll maybe give Ray Smith in Edinburgh a call and see what they suggest.  :happy2:
