I've had my private plate on 3 different cars now.  My second name is WALKER & MY reg is W28 LKR but I've squeezed them up together and never had a bit bother. W28LKR

With respect when I look at your reg, W28LKR I don't see it as walker

Maybe it's my dyslexia but I could read that as wanker

Your right it It defo is your dyslexia because last time I checked wanker doesn't have an "L" in it.

And WALKER doesn't have a 2 or an 8. But that might be my basic understanding of the English language

Kind of also depends on the local police awell. Where I am, seems that most don't really mind unless it's really stupid. It's just traffic cops that will do a double take and when a day of tickets for number plates is on!

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the DVLA are considering relaxing the law on number plate spacing. Bearing in mind they sell personalised number plates that only make sense if they have been spaced otherwise in accordance with the regs. I understand that as long as the spacing doesn't affect the way a vehicle can be identified, they may put forward a change in the law.

If you jump up and down blinking really fast and waving your hand in front of your face really fast it looks a bit like WALKER.

Anybody who knows me knows what the plate stands for, so I guess that's all that really matters. I'm not one of these guys who have football team initials within the plates, I think it's a tad chavy! Each to their own I suppose. Also Prior to buying the plate my plate  W44LKR was on the dvla site, I went back on a week later and it was gone.

W28LKR
WALKER

However I don't think it reads wanker.

I don't see how it reads 'Walker' either. The 8 might read as a B and say the 2 reads as an A (sort of), so at best it's 'WABLKR'.

ETTO but I hope you didn't pay a lot of money for it.

Speaking as someone who through his own fault recently had to go to magistrates court, I would keep it legal and avoid all un-necessary contact with the law, life is to short to have the hassle and worry every time you see a police car.

in response to the OP, i had my plates spaced XX X XXXX instead of XXXX XXX. otherwise the plate was to code, and i had the dealer plates in the boot. i got pulled over, but this was a couple of years ago and i only got fined the £60.

whilst i very much believe the police should concentrate on catching real criminals (and call BS on ANPR not being able to read plates spaced incorrectly - meaning the fine was unjustifiable imo) those are the rules and if you want to risk not playing by them then you need to be prepared to face the consequences.

What a stupid thread. Just space them properly. Ive got a cherished plate on, and i space it properly. Id prefer it to have no spaces at all, given what it is. But i dont want to ask for trouble that i dont need or want particularly.
