Belt Change - Not done by stealers at 4yr service?
« on: September 02, 2009, 07:33:00 pm »
Hi All

Just been reading post about the belt change at 40/60/80k or 4 Years

The one I bought on Saturday with Full VW Service May 05 registerd 49K doesn't appear to have had its belt changed.  Got all the service invoices from the previous owner.  Service book does say belt change at 80K - don't know what to do....

Luck the car has balance of extended warranty...

Any advice?

Many thanks in advance.

It would have been a good negotiating point before the sale but its obviously too late now.

Don't worry too much, my book says 120k miles no time limit.  My stealer told me not to worry about it until 100k miles when I asked.

I think 60k / 5 years is a sensible time to change and thats when I will be doing it.  Some dealers were doing a good offer on timing belt changes, don't know if they still are...

Thanks for the input.  Did have a DSG service done, but no belts.

Think I am going to drop the oil with an engine flush?  Can you still get engine flush????  Been years since I serviced a car.

Then take it to an independent for a once over on the VAGCOM.  Also I think I have a noisy bearing, but no wheel wobble when jacked.

Don't know still really new to the car and its noises etc. etc.

Just my new baby at the moment  :ashamed:

VW now quote 60k mile or 4 years so will need doing some time soon if yours is 4 yr old.
