Air con noise

When I place on auto or turn of Econ you can really hear strange noise coming from dashboard area. It's louder inside the car than outside. Had some air con works done about two years ago to fix a leak and alls been fine until recently. Heard the compressor or something can go so was wondering the noise this makes when going so I can compare? Any info welcomed.
