Hi from another newbie.

You're right in wanting blue..  It's the best colour!

Welcome mate,

Im also looking for a gti. Seen quite a few blue ones on Autotrader.

Bits to look out for:

Rust on front wings
Faulty Diverter Valve (earlier revision were diaphragm type and were prone to splitting, Rev G is a more robust one)
Look for rear tyre inner wear (Rear suspension problem)
If buying a DSG, make sure it has been serviced, otherwise manual ones should be pretty strong.
High pressure fuel pump (HPFP) has driven off a camshaft and the cam follower is prone to wearing,
The PVC valvle can split. The symptoms are a poor idle, and the sound of leaking air when you turn off the engine.

Or there's shadow blue...

Welcome from another middle-aged GTI-er!

Shadow blue DSG 5 door with leather, sunroof, 18" Monzas, MFSW.
Full list of mods:  Seat inserts and a VW bottle opener.  Each worth 20bhp.
