WTF - Tech Note on service - Lower Turbo Pipe Leaking

Hi All

Just spending a little time looking through the paperwork that cam with my car.

Just over a month ago the car was serviced at Smith Knight Faye, Bury.  There is a Technicians note that " OSF Lower Turbo Pipe Leaking"

Can anyone tell me what this means, is it an easy fix and why on earth wasn't it fixed.

Probably oil leaking from one of the pi$$ poor joints in the pressure pipework.  Quite common.

If you are under wty ask them to sort it.

Nope - 4yrs old with aftermarket warranty...

Is it a DIY fix?

I think they normally replace the pipe, IIRC the seals aren't a seperate pipe.

There is a pipe that runs from the turbo out, round  towards the front, past the bottom pulley and on to the intercooler.  I suspect it's this one they mean.

The turbo impeller shaft bearing floats on oil, which is supplied by pipework. This is the only pipe I know that could leak and it is not good

Try and sort this myself, you obviously can't trust anyone any more

i thought i had a small oil leak around the turbo area, but having just driven 1800 miles and not loosing any oil, i cant have,

my DV area had traces of oil around it. il keep an eye on this thred so please report your findings,

I'd go with Stu's theory too. Turbo to intercooler pipes can often slightly leak under boost. It would be worth phoning the dealer and asking to speak to the techie who did the service whilst it's still fairly fresh in his memory. He'd also be able to give you his opinion on whether he'd recommend you did something about it now or wait until the next service to see if it had deteriorated any further. An intercooler pipe will be under more pressure if the car is re-mapped and running higher boost so that can exacerbate a problem.
On my last service I was told an intercooler connection had a slight leak but not to be overly bothered about it as it was very minor. The connector can't be bought seperately (as above) so a new pipe would be required, likely cost of around £50.

....Which is why I upgraded all my turbo piping as a precautionary measure. VW, and others, don't manufacture their cars to accommodate aftermarket tuning.

The dealer isn't doing anything wrong by informing you of the leak - In fact quite the contrary - It's up to you to read the paperwork and to remedy, or instruct them to remedy, potential problems accordingly. However, a more helpful dealer would go through the paperwork details with you at the time of payment.

It's a Forge (or similar) Silicone Intercooler hose kit, a Forge (or similar) Throttle Body hose, a Neuspeed Turbo Out pipe and a Neuspeed Inlet pipe.
