MK6 R Running Costs?
« on: October 05, 2013, 10:00:10 am »
Any Golf R owners?

Trading my Golf GTi in for a Golf Mk6 R hopefully in the next month and I just wondered what the real long term running costs would be in comparison to my GTi?

I know the mpg will be less but how much? I only do a round trip to work of 18 miles and the odd trip from Northampton up to Liverpool a couple of times a year.

I would expect servicing costs will be on par, what about Haldex?

Insurance is not an issue as i am an old git.

Thanks for looking.

I didn't have a golf r but went from a gti to an S3 which is pretty much the same. Haldex needs servicing every 40000 miles and costs £80 at VW/Audi which is not too bad at all. As for fuel consumption best i saw in my m5 gti was 42mpg. Best i saw in my S3 was 37-38 on the motorway of course. Hope that helps  :happy2:

Hi mate, had my golfR since july13 & currently get around high 20s to low 30s mpg...bare in mind that its modded with GIAC extreme map& bolt ons=stg2+...not sure what a standard R will do mpg wise as I only had the golfR for a week in standard form before I modded it...

I doubt even mapping will have much of an impact, the biggest difference is the Haldex drive train.

I've found that deducting 5 mpg of the Official combined figure usually gives a realistic day to day MPG.

The type of driving will influence this too...rarely saw much more than 29-31 mpg with the MK5 on 10 mins of A road stop/start driving combined with 20 mins of Dual carriageway.

Now in the MK6 most of the journey is uninterrupted 50-60 mph and I frequently see 40 mpg....until joining carriageway :signLOL:.
