Picture too low resolution to see the fault.

Are you using a CD or DVD? Best using CD for firmware
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

What firmware do you have installed atm as the error message suggests that your present firmware is later than version 3800 you are trying to install.
Without traction power is nothing!

Seems as if you have 38xx or higher already?
Keep a hold of setup when in normal use for about 25 seconds, it brings up tabs with information, here you will see version info

Tried holding setup no joy as it won't display version
Think I'll have to activate it in vcds?

Burn the Video in motion software update and as well as applying this mod it will also enable the hidden software menus!

It's just a small file readily available!

Shayd, what year is your car, as this will matter when you upgrade your software past 1120, causing battery drain issues.

I went through quite an ordeal to finally end up with SW 4020, with Video in motion, a VUCI fix to stop battery drain, and maps 7918.  Can you actually get the setup menu appear now and if you can then what is your hardware version.

It will be the last letter on a long number like this; •1T0 035 680 C

Have a look on this site as it has invaluable information to get you going; http://www.my-gti.com/3354/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-upgrade-to-version-4020-4024-4026-4028

Remember to use the modified software or you'll need to get the unit coded with a VCDS cable.

Right Shayd,

You basically need to do exactly as I did, in order to get your unit fully updated and ready for the latest maps with 7 digit postcode search and loads of POI's.

1. Go to this website, http://www.rnsfirmware.com/ and first download and install the 3810a firmware.
2. Then you need to download and install the 4020 firmware. (Both these firmwares' are modified, so that you don't need to recode your unit using a Vag Com cable.)
3. Now install the VUCI fix, from here; http://dfiles.eu/files/a523wbwxf (If RNS-510 complains about downgrade error, insert media and reboot unit by pressing Setup + Eject + Info/Mic/whatever top right button together)

If you do it in this order you will not suffer battery drain issues and you will have the latest available firmware for your unit, which is a 'B' version, with video in motion and full 7 digit postcode entry.

PM me for any advice on the latest maps.
