Bloody Cars ! Airbag fault !
« on: October 05, 2013, 05:10:59 pm »
Hey folks, got a odd air bag fault coming up !

Had it scanned today by a friend, the following error code is coming up.

01221 Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Drivers Side (G179) , in particular "Open Circuit / Short to plus"

We tried clearing it, comes back.

We then did the classic rewire of the little block under the seat, you know the little panel you can access with the seat all the way back.

But the error remains !!!!

This of course leaves my air bag light on, and from what I can assume...deactivates the airbag :( :(

Checking the ross wiki page gives the following

Possible Causes

Wiring/Connections between Airbag Control Module (J234) and Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179) faulty
Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179) faulty
Airbag Control Module (J234) faulty

Possible Solutions

Check Wiring/Connections between Airbag Control Module (J234) and Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179)
Replace Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179)
Replace Airbag Control Module (J234)

Sadly I have no idea on what this means, so I ask you dear forum members, help me be safe again !

Thanks

JD

Do a search for 2.2ohm resistor, you can fit a resistor which fools the car into thinking everything is ok. But yes the drivers side seat airbag won't function.

Thanks for the input !

In lay terms, where should I be looking, or at least where should I tell my local indy garage to look !

Thanks Eddie !

Apologies EDD666999, you pair have a similar name figured it was the same person at first glance !

By common do you mean hopefully reasonably cheap to solve ?

I basically need enough info to go my indy and be like "Its looking like a sensor in my door..."

Is it just taking out the door card or is it a full door off job ?  :surprised:

I appreciate you dumbing it down for king of the noobs here  :happy2:

If you had to boil it down to a description or instructions on how to fix, how would that go ?

Thanks again !
