Best tyres for Winter

I am currently running Advan Ad08s and am wanting to get some winter tyres, you guys go any advice? what are good? i am not necessarily after full on winter

tyres but something that will offer more grip in the cold/snow/wet than the Advans do.

You need winter tyres for cold conditions, i have used expensive ones and cheap ones.

Vreidenstein wintrac extreme are very very good at about £130 each

This year as the car is doing far less milage , we have just got Nexen wingaurd sport £65 each delivered 225/40/18

Hands down even cheap winter tyres are better than summer tyres in the snow and ice.

No they are not.

Yes they are , posh summer tyres are useless in snow ......

I ran Sessantas all last winter and didn't get stuck once.
I was able to get up a hill on my way to work when a lady in her Q7 got stuck and was spinning all of her wheels.
I ran Winters the year before and I didn't ever once "need them".

I'm not saying Summer tyres are better than winters I'm just saying first hand experience, you can get buy with some summer tyres over winter.
Yes Winters are safer but unless it's snowy there is not much difference - eg in the dry or wet... only really icey/snowy under about 4 degrees road temperature
This year I'm running winter wheels with Vredestein Sessantas again..probably. not 100% made up mind yet.

You can get by, by eating Lidl food and drinking water but its a f*cking nasty experience... Much nicer to eat M&S with a nice glass of Mc.Guigans Red.

To be fair here, those who live mostly on the flat probably don't feel the need for winter rubber, but the UK is quite mountainous, and i hear there are a few places outside London, lol.   I've tried summer rubber up here in Snowdonia and in Scotland, its an horrendous experience... there's a good chance a fair portion of your journey home would be made on foot, wrap up warm peeps.
