RNS 510 - Faulty Volume Knob [NEED HELP]
« on: October 06, 2013, 06:01:03 pm »
Hi everyone,

The volume knob on my RNS 510 is faulty. The unit came with the car when I bought it and the guy told me about the problem, so I was aware of this, but it is starting to get annoying now   :sad1:

Basically when I adjust the volume, instead of it just going up, or just going down like it should, it goes up down up down up down up down, so it ends up on the same volume. The way to make it work properly is to push it down and to the left at the same time, and then turn it. It's rather fiddly.

The knob doesn't physically feel loose, so not sure what to do. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Thanks!  :happy2:

Hmmm, the fact tat it will work if held in a certain position makes me think it's defiantly a hardware issue rather than software

Is your car DSG with paddles ?  It might be easier to fit the buttons to the steering wheel

It could be a problem with the plastic dial or the hardware soldered on to the PCB

You are going to have to take it apart to find out

Manual. I would absolutely love a multi function steering wheel though, but as far as I know they are for DSG models only?

Thank you, I'll have a search online to see if I can find anything about taking one apart. I don't feel confident with going into this blind  :scared:

If the volume button is screwed its not too hard a job to replace. Get this and remove the volume knob and screen board - job done :)

I have a similar issue on a rcd510 but it occasionally works. Would it be the same fix?

Digging back this old thread because the problem was never fixed, and it's now really starting to annoy me  :sad1:

This listing was only for a single button, it wasn't for the board as well :(

Does anyone have any idea if taking it apart and soldering something will fix it?

Hi mate,

I've just taken the rns-510 out of my car and at first I thought it might be a bit of a task...but if you work slowly and have patience it should be ok.

Have you removed it from the car?

Taking it out the car is easy enough, have done it a few times in the past. Taking it apart is another story though..
