Newbie from the Isle of Wight!
« on: October 07, 2013, 06:39:12 pm »
Hi all, after many Mk4 Gt Tdi's, An A3 sline, a mk1 S3 and a mark 6 GTD, we have now moved close to work and I have bought a mk5 silver GTi with the following extras- factory xenons, heated leather and 6 disc changer. She is a high mile example but in completely standard form. Now my wife doesn't have a commute we sold our candy white GTD last week and with the change after paying of the finance we collected our GTi, I am over the moon with it, love the handling, looks and the quality feel even dare I say it over the mk6!

Will post some pics when I no how to do it!

On the drive home I found it to be very slow, first thing to check was this, swapped out for a revision d item this week, goes well now.

Have 1 last problem, a very noisy steering rack to sort out, when stationary or low speeds it's very noisy when moving mostly left. Had it up on ramps and can hear the noise from steering motor area, where can a reasonably priced rack be sourced from? Or is there another fix?

Jase

Hey fellow islander, what's the reg on your car?

Hey Adie, that has to be you right? Have you or Simon ever had steering rack trouble with your mk5? Before you put air on at least!

Thanks mate, got a good feel for the car already, wish when we had more money instead if a gtd would have a had a ED30, only thing that's left to do is the steering noise, needs a new rack I think which will be expensive never mind I like the car so it will get done
