Where to source interior parts.
« on: October 10, 2013, 02:35:04 pm »
Hi, total noob here, dont even have my MKV for a few days, but lm already looking to make a few improvements to the interior.

In no particular order they are:

1) Change the (very tatty) air con/climate control controls.
2) Change the (slightly tatty) window controls for Passat-style controls, maybe change the headlight and mirror controls too.
3) Add some kick plates, maybe some steel pedals and seat adjustors.
4) New head unit. RNS510 preferably, but open to suggestions.
5) LED interior lights.

As I said earlier, Im very new to the MKV and to "modding" so I have no clue where to source these parts from. Ive been on eBay and seen plenty, but lm unsure of the quality of the parts from China/Hong Kong/Poland and was wondering if there were trusted sellers for these parts.

Any advice will be very gratefully received.

Also, lm on Disability benefits, so my budget is quite limited at the minute.

If you are after original parts then going direct to a VW dealer isn't that expensive (found the same with the BMW in the past). You'd think it would be cheaper on Ebay but that tends to be either more or used parts in poor condition for not much cheaper. Just find the part number and drop your local dealer an email.

Iv found them very expensive and my local one is so poor at responding to questions

Thanks for the advice guys.

Joedarka, any mods really. Probably looking at the cheaper end of the market and mainly on the interior, to begin with at least. I am picking up my MKV 2.0 TDI on Sat. Cant wait.

As mentioned, have a look on Bold sports site, I've been using them for a few years now and never had a problem, always very quick delivery and still OEM products but for the Asia market. All simple to change apart from the Fuel Flap switch, that ones a PITA.

Also look into changing all your interior lights to LED's. Costs around £20 ish for the full set and a simple change over.

You could change your climatronic unit to a Mk6 one, add a RCD510 or RNS510 Headunit and change your cluster to a Highline (if needed) or a R32 white dial cluster. Or even a Mk6 MFSW steering wheel.

Little bits, like a shiny dead pedal, seat inlays, brushed aluminium ashtray cover etc etc etc.

^^^^ Good point re radio surround, either wrap or paint. Didn't you do you in a graphic design? I've painted my spare one black, look ok IMO.

Door warning lights are a VERY good mod, really useful and get noticed by peeps who know they're not normally there.

OP, My review/write up on Door Warning Lights......

Painted radio surround and around gear stick and also around ashtray..

Thanks for all the advice so far. The interior LED's sound like a quick easy mod, so guess that will be first on my list, closely followed by the window etc switches. Hadnt even thought about the surrounds for the stereo unit, will probably wait until I get a RNS510 to put in before l do anything like that though. That gloss black looks awesome, what paint did you use? I have the plain black cloth interior so may go with gloss black, or go to the other end of the scale and make it more colorful. I quite like the idea of an electric blue to compliment the blue dials, not all out blue, but accents here and there.

Ok, not an interior mod, but can l fit a GTI grille to my car or does it require a load of new parts?
