Goodyears no good on track?

Goodyear is a good high performance tyre for road use, i would not classify it as a track day tyre, but the SS is. I have used it both on Ring Knutstorp in wet and dry on the same day and also on Donington on a 29 degrees day without issues and it kept up even with those cars running the R888, i do not believe that the single compound GY2 can do so

Surely the SS is still a road tyre...  I cant see it being anywhere near as track orientated as the a048/888/direzza type tyre.

Mine were fine on track in both wet and dry conditions, ran them at oulton, the ring and spa and whilst not in the same performance bracket as my Fed RSRs I found them more than up to track use if needed :happy2:

They have the grip level need for track due to the dual compound, yet still have the treadwear for the road, best part is the tyre pressure is the same for track and road meaning they are hazzlefree to use on both occations.
Absolutely the best of both worlds.
I base this on having tried the following tyres on my Golf:

Bridgestone RE050a (worst tyre tried)
Toyo R1R (quite high noise level but great grip)
Toyo R888 (Great grip, high noiselevel, bit tricky getting the tyrepressure right)
Michelin PS3 (Great road tyre but lacking grip for high powered car use)
Michelin PS Cup (Very dangerous in the wet when not up in heat)
Yokohama AD08 (Excellent behaviour on the road, grips well in the wet)
PSS ( By far my favourite for road with a couple of trackdays as well)

The PSS will definitely be my next choice of tyre once the cr@ppy winter weather passes. Will be getting 4 put on the OZ once they've been refurbed over the winter, can't wait to feel the grip levels that everyone raves about! :jumpmove: :pomppomp:

I've used the GYA2s on track, like Beddie said, there's plenty of grip and they'll do 20 min sessions - but it took a lot of effort to find the right pressure to avoid the wobbly sidewall if too low and turning to grease if too high.

The SSs, the carcass is so stiff and that outer compound so sticky, you just lean on them harder and harder and they just deal with it. That's where the 10% is found. The trade off is a slightly harsher ride.

But, and this is the rub - not many people on here track their cars. The GYA2 is a superb tyre, day in day out you'd be hard pushed to notice this night and day people speak of.
Sideways yo!

An update for you guys:

just got off the phone to Michelin - I was querying the recommended pressures for my PS3's.
Anyhow, I asked about the release date for the super sports (225/40/18 XL 92y) (as I had remembered this thread). The gent on the phone said they were being released "very shortly" as they were now listed on the UK price list.

He advised that if I was to place an order at ATS (who are owned by Michelin), The order would be fulfilled once the tyre was released for sale - from that, I assume he meant that ATS would have the latest pricing.

Hope this helps..

Rich
