New product. Possible alternative option compare with RNS510
« on: September 05, 2009, 02:46:38 pm »
Couple of thing before I start. This unit is made by PHILIPS China, OEM by Foryou.
The display language showing is in Chinese. But should give you a general idea how the interface look like. All pictures are based on another reviewer. I’m considering to purchase this new product. Will post more picture and review once I installed it.

My comments:
Very well designed unit. This looks like a much better and reliable product than other non-branded units. It has perfect communication with CANBUS to make all your steering wheel function works. Build in Bluetooth is definitely an advantage.

Price: about GPB $500. Definitely much cheaper option than RSN510.

It is a shame that it does not support English language interface. Seems like it only support one OEM navigation software at the moment. So Navi function will be useless for all western users, unless you wanna drive to China, haha. But I am sure they will make English and customized NAVI software install possible.  No built-in hard drive. But USB and SD support are enough.

Highlight features:
-   500MHZ CPU
-   Perfect plug-in design
-   Built-in Bluetooth
-   SDHC, USB capable
-   CANBUS communication possible. All steering wheel button works. Highline displays music file, in coming call, etc. But no navigation display.
-   Screen resolution 800*400
-   Video support: DVD, S(V)CD,DivX, MPEG4. Format: PAL, NTSC

The tech is somewhat better though. I'm happy with my RCD510

I would say RSN510 is the first choice when money is not a problem

But this Philips should have the market share compare with other OEM and units

Money wasn't an option for me but I chose the waywell WD6050 over the RNS510 because I wanted television, DVD and a better sat nav - which (having had it on my phone) iGO 8.3 is.

I think the Philips call/end buttons are to in your face and the unit looks cluttered all just a little to busy for me and the red green just adds to the lack of uniformity. :o
