New car, need DV advice
« on: October 06, 2013, 05:07:33 pm »
Hi all

Picked up our first ever GTI yesterday, a wonderful 05 DSG standard car.

Now, as it is our first GTI I didn't really know what to expect but it just felt sluggish to me and not befitting of the GTI name.

So, got it on the ramps today and pulled the DV as many people say it's the weak link.

Found this

So - clearly needing replacement, I've got two questions

1 - I presume a tear this big makes a BIG difference to performance and
2 - Which is best? A Rev D or a Rev G? Need to get one tomorrow in Leicester, I hope the dealers have them in stock!!

Thanks

Yikes, that's absolutely battered.

G is best short term, but D won't split... I tested both back to back and didn't log any difference in boost, but others have.

The G is a fair bit cheaper, go for that.

I would second that, go for the G.

I had a Rev D in and found it was great to start off with but after a while I started to experience lag which got worse day by day so changed it with a Rev G and it started to run sweet again.

G as it holds boost much better as the D is prone to leak.

 :driver:

Rev G fitted today and woohoo. I now get what all the fuss is about!!

What a car. It's awesome, what a great all round package. The DSG just comes alive with more poke and all makes sense.

I'm now incredibly jealous of my wife as this is her daily driver.

I can't believe how much of a difference it's made to the power, smoothness and overall feel of the car. It does now feel like a hot hatch. The most fun I've had with a car since my s1 Elise, and I've had a ton of motors after that inc an exige, s2000 and a 911 turbo (996).

A remapped ED30 must be off this planet!

I got a rev G fitted and I was gob smacked at how much difference this made over the torn old DV.

However I'm going to fit this tomorrow as part of my fit and forget regime I undertake with all my cars:

Yep, I got a G and my god it made a difference.

I was starting to wonder what all the fuss about the mk5 gti was about until I got it fitted  :driver:
