So the golf's now getting near to where I might be able leave it alone for a bit
so I thought I'd put up a little build thread.
I bought the car bog standard last November
As a high mileage rep-mobil for a decent price, test drove it and everything was as it should be, i had to wait a week to pick it up as the dealer was replacing discs and pads on the front as part of the deal and they also ended up doing the rear pads too which was a bonus!
Everything was all good until me and my son where on the way home after getting a one way train ticket to kent, when on the first dual carriageway slip road it went into limp mode! I switched it off and re-gained boost but it kept going back to limp mode so I took straight back the dealer who was surprisingly helpful as I had the bought the car "spares or repairs & should not be driven away" according to my receipt!
Anyway, after a lot of test driving trying to replicate the limp mode it finally did it with one of there mechanics in the car and they agreed to look at the car instead if just clearing the fault code and starting again.
They gave me a brand new A class to get home in and three days later I was back on the way to kent to pick up my new car with a brand new turbo fitted free of charge! Result!
I left it alone for a few months until I got the modding bug again and started off with a bit of DIY power increase. Sounds a bit pikey but it did the trick....
Cutting the cat out....
And all welded back up...
So the next thing was the exposed tail pipes so I was lucky enough to be given a GTI rear valance for free!
I had a few exhausts parts kicking around so made myself a suitcase delete. I don't have any of it off the car but here's it fitted..
Next up was the wheels, from these...
To these that I refurbed in gloss black...
Sorry for the crappy phone pics!
After I had fitted the wheels it obviously needed lowering but I didn't get round to that for far too long!
You might have noticed my next mod in that last pic which was a colour coded rear valance.
From this...
To this...
The paint isn't a great match but if you don't know its wrong you'll probably never know but I do want it reap intend as there's a few chips in the number plate plinth.
Next up was my favourite mod so far! Getting rid of the horrid standard front end...
For a GTI front bumper..
Loving the new look I admired it for a few weeks and just took a few pics here and there...
Need to space my fog lights out as there sitting back too far, not sure if that down to the replica bumper or the eBay fog lights?
Next up was some Eibach lowering springs.
That's how it stands for now, in the pipe line are these...
In need of a refurb but will look sweet wrapped in some nice Pirelli p-zero Nero's
Also I have some GTI side skirts waiting to be colour coded but I won't get round to the for a while now.
Any comments welcome!
