URGENT - advice needed....

Hi all,

Just about to drop my car off for its 30k service (T&D with longlife oil).  The dealership are trying to convince me to go for an engine flush using some sort of cocktail; was wandering if anyone on here has done this or whether it is advisable/safe for the engine?

Im no expert mate but i would assume that it would only help keep the engine clean and surely the dealers wouldnt do it if it wasnt safe...

How much they tryna charge though

They are BOUT £12 for the decent flushes.

We use FORTE engine flush and it is really, really good - put it in your engine and run for approx 20mins, it will get all the crap out of the engine.  When you check your oil after wards, usually it is so clean that it actually looks like there is none on the dipstick, where it is translucent.

im confused, so you just pour it in and run for 20mins simples, or do you have to do it during iol change.

Going to be getting some of that for when I drop the oil before winter.

Didn't know what was used these days.

btw Yes you run the car for a bit, I used to have a gentle run in the car with the flush in for 30 mis or so.  Then soon after take the sum plug out letting the oil collect in a washing up bowl or cat litter tray.

Word of caution, hot oil!!!! Any ware disposable gloves if you are doing it yourself

When I looked at my last service invoice I noticed that there was a Wynns cleaning product on there but nothing else mentioned. Perhaps this was something similar (3rd year time & distance service).

I was under the impression that some of these flushes did help clean the inlet valves on these direct injection engines in the absence of fuel being injected there. Obviously not a decoke substitute but something which would help somewhat. No?

The cleaner could have been a fuel additive, or possibly a brake (dust) cleaner if they changed the pads etc.
I would have thought an engine flush would have been fully itemized as such.
Suppose only way to tell is by asking.

As Oli says we use it at work it is really good product from thier engine flush to thier injector cleaner

Do you pros still drop the oil from the sump (plug) after flushing?
Or is there some new preferred method?
