New Mechatronic unit
« on: October 14, 2013, 11:13:43 pm »
My GTI has been at VW for a week now awaiting a new Mechatronic Unit. Does anyone know how long I can expect to wait for the part and the job to be done as VW aren't being too informative?
Thanks

I suspect that the unit is coming from Germany but they (VW) may not have any in stock atm hence the delay.
Without traction power is nothing!

Apparently the part will be in stock tomorrow! That's 2 weeks it's been at the garage.
As for price I've only just bought the car from a garage that gave a comprehensive warranty. Having said that my local VW are seeing if VW will do a goodwill repair.

I had mine done at vw in May. Its approx £2000 inc vat and labour. I did ask for a goodwill, they gave me 100% off the parts and 50% off labour. My cars an 08
It took 3 weeks to get it done, I took my car home and waited for the part to arrive. Be patient and nice they will fix it.
Did you ask for the goodwill before they ordered the part, I did. They have to send a request to head office before they can give any discount.

This is reassuring to hear. Just bought a "mint" 09 mk6 gti and the dsg is silky smooth when cold. But then goes really jerky the warmer the engine becomes.

After 2 hrs it can be as bad as a car driven by a learner when stepping off. After that into 2nd it's back smooth again.

Mine does this occasionally but I think a dsg reset will resolve as it only does it driving in loads of stop start traffic

Once my fault was diagnosed it was with my dealer for 4 weeks whilst the part was sent over from germany. I was in no rush as i had another car to use  :happy2:

Cost came in at £1,890 i think, but it was covered by warranty.

Update...Well my car is STILL at VW!
4 weeks 2 days now!
New unit arrived 2 weeks ago & then apparently waiting for the go ahead from the warranty company.
I still haven't got my car back because they are telling me they're having trouble 'coding' it to the car??
How long can this take and am I being messed about because it's not my cash that's paying for it?to add to this my VW garage is absolutely usless at communication & it's always me calling them to check progress!!

I thought I would update with my adventure... I had the usual warm-DSG issue.. whereby the gearbox would become very clunky when warm.. Mostly 1st gear.

Went into VW Lookers Battersea under extended warranty.. I had to pay for the excess and they had a go at it.. I mentioned I thought it was the Mechatronic playing up.. but they insisted in doing it their way.. a software reset didn't change anything so they directly replaced the clutch pack (car only had 6k very light miles..).. I took the car back and of course the same issue reappeared as soon as the engine oil would go above 90C..

Long story short.. they took the car back in, did a 2 days diagnostics.. managed to convince VW that the Mechatronic needed replacement. Gave me the car back whilst the part was being ordered.. 1month later they kept the car for 4 days to install it, test it, send software readings back to Germany.. re-test it.. re-download and so on and so forth.

I have the car back now and it does feel like a different car altogether.. no more jerking.. perfectly smooth. Just likes to keep 2nd gear a lot more I have a feeling.. especially when coming to a junction it will not downshift to 1st unless I mark a complete stop. Not that it bothers me too much.. but car will just pull away in 2nd gear smoothly.

No I can start thinking about thinking all the upgrades which I have been missing.. like LED rear light, PDC OPS, RNS 510, BT & iPod  :stupid:

I had the VW extended warranty which paid out.. but I thought for these kind of DSG Mechatronic issues VW was willing to pay up if you had serviced the car in the VW network and car was not modified ?

I bought mine from a VW main dealer, I noticed the mechantronic kangarooing a month or so after. Told them I wasn't happy and they did the work for me within a month. It did take them 2 weeks to even get a unit to replace it though.

New mechatronic unit and also replaced my front wings as well as they were rusty. I've got nothing but praise for them as I've paid nothing, I was fairly straight with them about it but they did it no fuss.

It seems to depend rather a lot on the dealer in question!
