Serviced my gti, anything else i should do? (common problems)
« on: October 15, 2013, 07:18:38 pm »
Hi all

I own a 55 plate mk5 golf gti with stage 1 revo map & panel filter, everything else is stock. The car has done 58k miles and below are all the service items/parts changed before i bought it (i've owned the car for 1 year now)

vw interval service @ 12k
vw interval service @ 23k
vw interval service plus air filter @ 30k
Bonnet lock pin switch after fault appeared
Cambelt, tensioners, waterpump & coolant @ 37k
vw interval service @42k
Oil change & filter, front & rear pads & discs replaced @ 48k

I bought the car just after the 48k service and i have recently just done all of the following

Replaced air intake as some of it was missing..
ECT sensor
Lower arm bushes, front right & left
Aircon regas (think my aircon is buggered tbh)
Diverter Valve - latest revision
PCV Vavle, gasket & hoses - latest revision
Green cotton panel filter
Spark plugs - latest revision
Coil packs - latest revision
Pollen filter
Oil change & filter
Gear box oil change

I have the engine coolant to drain and top up but apart from that does anyone else have any suggestions of items that should either be topped up or parts that are prone to failure which i should replace before they go boom?

Any info is appreciated :happy2:

Also at no cost to you I would chase the dealers and see if your coil packs are on the FOC replacement champagne!

Cheers Dan, replaced the gearbox oil as part of my recent work, feels smoother!

no mention of brake fluid - i would certainly change that if you haven't done in the last year and there's no mention of it in the old paperwork. won't cause a fault but good routine maintenance.

other than that the cam follower and the fuel filter would be the only other things to be done as part of routine(ish) servicing.

Nice one :happy2: i'll look into those. Is the fuel filter located in the fuel pump?

Don't break the fuel pipe clips to the filter as there not sold separately (fuel line replacement) !
