Hi All - Hopefully Moving to a Mk5...
« on: October 21, 2013, 08:28:10 pm »
Hi guys,

I feel bad since I really haven't made much of an effort on here, so thought I'd introduce myself properly...

My names Ryan, I'm 28 and live just outside Cambridge. Love cars (why else would I be on here) and have owned some random ones to say the least.

Car history is as follows:

'93 Citroen AX GTi
'92 Citroen AX GTi
'92 Honda CR-X siR EF8 Import
'84 BMW 323i auto
'93 Saab 9000 CSE
'96 Saab 9000 CSE
'95 Saab 9000 Aero
'02 Audi S3 8L
'58 BMW 135i
'12 Golf GTD
'12 Skoda Fabia vRS
'98 Audi S4 B5

I still own the S4 which is currently pushing out around 650bhp and this is what I shall be replacing with a nice MK5 all going well.

I'm still undecided whether to go for a standard GTi or an Edition 30. I'll have around £9k  to spend and know I won't get a great Ed.30 for that, so maybe better off buying a top spec GTi with 510, leather, xenons etc.

Can you guys aid me in anyway with what to specifically look for when buying one, and which options you can't live without (most recommended).

Hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more of me on here!

Cheers,

Ryan

You will get a highish mileage ed30 for that sort of money which is probably what I  would  go for if you are used to big power as they are a lot more easily tunable.

Most things can be retro fitted but personally I would go for factory xenons as they wont be strictly legal (grey area at least) without washers and autolevelling.

Lots of info on here on what to look out for when buying if you do a search.

Ps . post some pics and the spec of the S4.  :happy2:

Cheers for the info mate. Definitely want the xenons... I've found a nice black Ed30 but it doesn't have the highline dash and steering wheel controls, are these easily retrofitted?

Here's a couple of pics of my S4:

Really looking forward to getting into a Mk5 in all honesty, always had a huge soft spot for them.
I'm good friends with Loba so an Ed30 with a cheeky Loba LO4XX would be pretty nice as a daily driver...

EddieNL is the man to go to on here for retro fits however I believe the mfsw can be a bit tricky if it's not a dsg with paddles already due to the manual not having the wiring already installed.

I think I'm after a DSG car since the boxes are fantastic. Both the GTD and vRS had the DSG box and I loved them.

I do love manual cars, but now new 'autos' are so responsive and have lightning fast changes, whilst also being able to stick it in 'D' and just chill, they're now extremely appealing to me.

What can you expect from a standard ED30 with just a remap then, 280bhp? Who are the guys to go to for such work?

Cheers.
