I have DSG and love it. I recently added some s2t paddles (that's the manufacturer) and made a massive improvement to using DSG in manual. Not cheap, but worth it. http://www.s2tpp.com/VW.html

Statllers had one set in black left and they usually keep stock although I had the last pair

Gone but not forgotten :-)

Never expected to have a DSG ED30 when I first set out looking, but after trying both manual and DSG, I felt the DSG was better suited for my daily drive.

Guess I'm getting old, as I got fed up of all the clutch work in heavy traffic. Must admit, the DSG changes are absolutely seemless - my mate was amazed by it on track at Donington last weekend - said there was just no break in the acceleration.

Only time I now miss a manual is the ability to skip gears up and down the gearbox.

I can only advise - try both and make your own decision!

I'm a big fan of manual as i prefer the involvement of changing gear myself and the challenge of maintaining smooth gear changes with the clutch - its all part of the skill of driving

However After seeing how well the combination of DSG and haldex work together on Hurdy's, if i was going for an "R", it would be DSG. I think the clutch on a manual would struggle to take a lot of fast launches and would be slipping at Stage 1 anyway. . .

DSG does use a little more fuel and is a little heavier (25kg) than a manual box

It's 29 & I'm fed up with manual. It all depends on lifestyle as well, how much driving you do. I find the DSG more engaging then manual, and the fact it's quicker is just the winner for me. Everyday driving in 'D' is perfect. Then 'M' is racecar mode

Warranty is transferable and it's had the major service on the DSG at 40k,it's on 44k ata the moment,I managed to get it at £22,600 and it has full service history and is in mint condition,it also has the bluefin hand held mapping tool thrown in as well! :jumping:

The best bit is you can sell the bluefin  :signLOL:

After reading this I wouldn't touch them: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,65077.0.html

Their mapping techniques seem to put a lot of strain on components, just dumps a load of boost which tails off later on in the rev range  :scared:

That's the first thing i'll be doing is removing the map,I want to keep the 'R' standard until I have a chance to go to R-Tech! :happy2:

I'm beginning to think more often now "I wish I got a DSG box...", but that's usually when I've missed a rushed change into 4th or 5th when I remember the Audi A3 TDI 6MT boxes weren't designed for fast changes back to back  :chicken:
