Received an FB update from Steve Petty Motorsports a couple of days back and thought it may be of interest around here? 

They have finally got around to releasing a 2 piece front disc upgrade for the MK5/6 GTi, looks great and should perform well and is a bit of a bargain cost wise imo...

Retains the stock GTi caliper, but gives a 345mm x 26mm disc which is a claimed 14% lighter than the OE R32 disc, directional vanes, coated bell and if i remember my brakes math lesson from Prof Friction aka DaveB then anything above 343mm should ideally be 2 piece, which these are  :happy2:

All in for a pair of discs, new Goodridge stainless lines, caliper carrier brackets and hardware for $545 (£377 ish), bargain!  :happy2:

Budget say £150 for a set of naughty pads for the OE caliper and you could have a very capable budget BBK that according to SPM will fit under the stock wheels...

Guess the prospect of using these with some NQSBBK calipers with a change of carrier is a possibility? /Calling Prof Friction...

Looks very interesting! Do you think they'd fit under 17'' Monzas without a spacer?

I couldn't be 100% sure as it'll come down to the caliper spacing, but 17" Monzas will clear a 345mm disc radially as they will fit over the OE R32 ones  :smiley:

The critical element for clearance will be how far out the caliper comes from the centre but looking at the carriers in this kit they seem fairly skinny and mostly to move the caliper radially and the 312 caliper is a good bit smaller than an R32 one..

I've got a mk6 golfR...will these fit & would I benefit on this kit as I think oem setup is r32 brakes on the R?

Not convinced the diameter/thickness ratio is good either, its either face thickness mass for heat absorbtion or  air gap for cooling at 26mm you wont get either with these.

But hey at that sort of money (380) landed with duty paid and VAT I'll have a pair myself, OEM Gti Caliper pad avilable in M1144 and 55 - cheap too...

Nice one Steve, shame the NQS caliper wont go over these, that maxes out at around 325mm

I'll add that factoid to my Prof Fiction 'Big brakes math book'  :happy2:

Yeah hopefully it turns out to be a quality product, SPM seem to have a decent track record with race car builds and aviation part manufacture so let's hope they know what they are doing, especially with the latter!  :grin:

These won't fit the Golf R /R32 calipers sadly, designed for the 312mm GTi setup  :smiley:

Sadly just had a look at the website, the price above is in dollars in the US.

So add state tax/duty/VAT and 25 kg shipping and it could get nearer £5-550. At which point im asking what make are the rotors..... probably coleman which if they are Coleman arent without there issues, think ECS

Only my $0.02 though, they look great. AP do a replacement disc assembly for the R32 disc but its £700 quid or something stupid - floating though.

Its difficult to justify the expense based on a weight saving when 9/10 times the spare wheels in the boot and SatNavs fitted.

Cheap and cheerful or expensive and capable is still the way for me imvho

Good find Steve, our US cousins will be fitting these in droves Im sure

Yeah TRD do or did a 2 piece 345x30 2 piece rotor, wanted just shy of £800 for a pair when I enquired last year though  :surprised:
