Removing my private reg
« on: January 30, 2014, 01:33:10 pm »
I send off my document to remove my private reg the other week along with the cheque for £115 to put the reg on retention.

Just received my V5 with my old reg on.

Should i have got a replacement tax disk? and a retention document for my private plate?

When should i tell my insurance?

Tax disc and new MOT will come seperately from the V5, at least it did when I put my wife's plate on

cool...i have just called insurance and had the plate changed, and changed the plates on the car.

Just don't want to be driving with any issues from the fuzz should they stop me.

You shouldnt change the plates until you get the authority to display the standard registration and the replacement tax disc. They normally come through first, its usually the V5 that takes the longest to come back (well, the retention doc also takes a while).

Why is this not clear anywhere?  Well I'm now insured on my standard reg, am displaying my standard reg and have a tax disk with the incorrect reg on.

I'm glad I won't need to drive it for a few weeks.

Recently put a private reg on mine and the V5 came a day before the tax disc did so it's probably normal. DVLA are just pants at everything though!

Should have said earlier that my V5 came back first. You get a letter which tells you there is approval to swap over the plates which is valid for 7 days, it is then you should put on the new/standard plates and tell insurers.

Looks like you only have a day or so to wait anyway as your V5 came.

I'm in the same boat

Sent the forms away 2 weeks ago, got the v5 and retention certificate through this week but still no sign of the mot and tax disc.

Every other time I have changed the plate I get the mot and tax disc first then the v5 a few weeks later

I was surprised to see they closed all the dvla offices!

I was sat outside the old Preston office expecting to just get it all done in a hour. Turns out you have to post it all off, annoying.

First world problems
