Motocross.....
« on: October 21, 2013, 01:30:27 pm »
Not sure if anyone here is into Motocross but worth an ask.......

After a couple of years without a Motocross bike I'm fancying another. Last bike was sold in 09 and was a KXF250 which I loved (up until I sold that one I'd had them since I was 6 years old). I've only ever used them for recreation in our fields or practice tracks but now I fancy a go at racing. I've got absolutely everything apart from a bike!

Question is, what is best for racing?!

Obviously there is next to no one making a 2 stroke nowadays but my brother is selling a 08 KX125 with a 144 big bore kit on it. It's either that or another 4 stroke. Having had both and ridden both I've no real preference but I've never raced either, only messed about on them, nothing serious. I'll just be starting racing so it wont be too mad to start with

Any thoughts or advice welcome :happy2:

I know they are, you can be in the wrong gear and have more chance of getting away with it

If I didn't have the chance of my brothers KX144 then I'd probably be buying a 250F but the fact I know the bike and know its probably only been started 15 times in 3 years is making me think I should just try that. Plus a bit cheaper to run and maintain etc and Ivery much doubt I'll be up the sharp end in my first year anyway

Couple of my mates race and they use the Honda and Kawasaki 450 4 strokes, both are competitive apparently.

That's the thing, everyone seems to be on 4 strokes now

The KX144 I'm thinking of buying is slightly better than a KX125, being a 144 it's got slightly more bottom end. 2 Strokes are just such good fun to ride

A 450F would be no good for me, I'm not a big guy and last time I took one out it pulled me about rather than me throwing it about. Plus the classes for the 450F's don't have as many people in round here

Hopefully we will get a dry weekend and I get out on the 144 so see what I think although my head still says 250F

I know what you mean about thumpers, I used to race a KX250 myself (2 Str) but sold it when I moved overseas, when I had money to buy another it was all 4 strokes  :sad1:
