newbie with foglight question!
« on: October 23, 2013, 01:11:36 pm »
Greetings all,

I have had my MK5 GTI for a few years and absolutely love it to bits.  I have just noticed that one of the front fogs lights is not working so I thought I would take a look at the forum and see if I can find out how to change it myself.

But I can only find threads on normal bulbs and swopping for LEDs etc, my fog lights appear to be Xenon lights (pic below)

But they are a yellow light and weak as sh*te, so can anyone help me with the following:

 - is there a step by step idiots guide (and I mean idiots guide!!) on how to change the bulbs?
- can anyone recommend some bulbs that will give a bit more light to match the xenon headlights?

Thanks in advance.

Jez

Hi

This should help..

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=15023.0

..which includes link to here..

Yours is the projector type of fog light (which needs a H11 bulb) as opposed to the reflector type (which needs a H4/9006 bulb).

I'll leave someone else to advise you on the best H11 bulbs to buy.  :happy2:

Hi PND,

Thanks for the reply and the links to other posts - much appreciated.

I have just been out to the car with a screwdriver and had a look at the light.  The glass lens was still in place but the rear housing had broken off and fallen inside the spoiler.

Do you have any idea on the VW part number for this part so I can buy a new one.  I had a good look at it but cannot find where the part number is on it?

Cheers

I think these are the part numbers for the projector type:

1T0 941 699 B (left)
1T0 941 700 B (right)

Hi PND,

Many thanks for that.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the best H11 bulbs?

Cheers
