Ko4 plunge!

Taking the ko4 plunge guys! Just wanted to know what you think. Its on 78k miles mk5 55plate dsg currently at stage 1 revo with evoms intake milltek full tbe with decat.. With the mileage in the car is it gunna be a problem? And also does the ko4 sound any different or with it being mapped again when ko4 is bolted on will it sound more aggressive??

Yeah mine was over 100k when I did the conversion, now on 125k and running sweeeeet!

The engine can take it no problem. As long as you do the conversion by the book, including mapping.

Personally I'd just sell up and buy an edition 30. It's what I done & made more financial sense. Your choice tho

I've literally just done this too. Though my motivation was more the fact that the edition was the exact car / spec I was after when I bought the gti and I got a reasonable deal on it.

Well im in two minds, if i wanted a new car i'd want it to be something totally different possibly e46 m3.

E46 M3 was one of the cars in the short list when I bought my gti.

The price of an inspection 2, discs and pads and it would be un usable most of the winter up here put me off them

Just sold my full k04 kit at £1400 fitted or £1800 mapped.

Nowhere near 1/2 the value of the car.

is that second hand though? usually new K04 with all support mods and map it would just over £2-2.5K, now i know a 55 plate GTI may go for more than £5k, but not buy a lot.

Plus do you really want to spend that much one part taking into account all of the above. If it was me i would be buying better handling mods like roll bars and brakes. both of which you can easily remove and put on a new VAG or sell at a good price.

You can remove and sell on a K04 at a good price too (as shown above)

For some, it just doesn't make sense to sell up and buy a newer car, and (imo) works out more expensive that you initially think.

I love K04 GTIs - they are brilliant. Plus some people actually prefer the understated look of the GTI. It's also priceless when you leave a 'superior' Edition 30 for dead on a dragstrip or on a track

Because a K04 GTI generally means that it would have Revo / APR stage 3 or an R-Tech custom map with all the supporting mods (TBE, intake, HPFP etc). So an Edition 30 would have to be Stage 2+ to be similar

And due to the compression ration of a K03 engine it actually holds the power better at the top end over an ED30 engine
