Crunching gears
« on: October 25, 2013, 07:13:26 pm »
Hi all

Most times when i put my tdi in to reverse its crunches, and its tough to put it into 1st.

Also i pulled at home tonight on a bit of a slope and i couldn't get the car into gear 1 3 or 5 i only just managed to get it into reverse. So i reversed off the drive and then the car could go into gear.

Could it be the gearbox or clutch on its way out?????.

The car has 112 on the clock

All comments appreciated

Start with the cheapest first:-

Is it cold weather dependant?

Look at the clutch pedal for failure

Adjustment of the gear linkage or bush replacement

Check brake fluid level - Bleeding of the slave cylinder

Check gear box oil level

Looking at testing the clutch for operation soundness!

If none of the above your looking at clutch or box  - both expensive!

Ive had the gearbox oil changed yesterday morning. And no change.

The clutch pedel sometimes sticks at bottom. And the bite is right at the bottom

Been looking on other sites ppl say it could be the slave cylinder or/and master cylinder
