How many of you have changed your MAF sensor?
« on: October 25, 2013, 08:03:14 pm »
I have heard this can affect the performance of the car as it helps regulate how much air the engine gets.

How many of you have changed this sensor and at what miles did you change it? Thanks

You can clean it and save the outlay?

Maplin electrical contact cleaner spayed all over will help restore it to new. There's a few threads on here about cleaning your MAF  :happy2:

You can clean it for a while, but they do go bad. I replaced mine once at about 90k miles. My intake air mass readings were falling quite a bit short for the HP it has...so yes, that is when it affects performance. Signals relay poor air flow and the rest will adjust to those numbers. A drop in fuel efficiency is a good sign of this.

Is there any instructions on how to change/clean this yourself? What is the cost of replacement? Thanks.

Pretty simple to do. Remove two screws and unplug it. Use MAF sensor cleaner and spray inside and out...inside meaning inside the opening on the inner measuring portion of the sensor and not where the plug goes...let dry for a minute or two...reinstall it.
MAF sensor...2 screws...it is not necessary to remove the engine cover for this procedure. If you know some other dubbers...one may have a ross-tech cable to check your intake air mass...this would be helpful to know whether or not the MAF sensor is dying or on its way out ;p

Spray inside here:
