I'll never get a mk7 gti cause it has an electric handbrake... Why do that to a gti that's meant for fun?

Mk6 R or ed35 is the only route id go

The gti is meant to be an all rounder, a subtle quick reasonably economical hot hatch, that appeals to the family man that wants to be able to take the kids around in comfort but put his foot down on the way home

I have never used the handbrake to have fun and I would hazard a guess at saying 98% of the target market wouldn't either!

It wouldnt stop me buying one anyway..each to their own i suppose!

Easy to understand why -  plenty problems with the electronic ones, compared to the mechanical units. :happy2:

What he said X2
If I need to use it I wanna know its going to work  :happy2:

As for mk6 they started to look like ever other hatch from then on, mk7's just don't stand out at all.
Volkswagen should have dropped the GTI badge after the mk5

Having said that I do like the Golf R in the Blue

Mechanically the MK7 is far and beyond the car that either the MK5 or MK6 is, but whether you can live with the styling is another matter

Serious question....how often do you use your handbrake for "fun"? Hearing quite a few people now airing their displeasure at the leccy handbrake but really can't understand it, in the 2 and a bit years I had my Gti I had a truck load of fun and never was the hand brake part of it.

Anyway as for the Mk7, I'd have one at the drop of a hat, very nice cars.

I think it was more of an excuse trying to express my dislike at the electronic handbrake (that I have no reason to hate, never used one)
But even on the mkv adverts there was a woman hooning about hand braking... I'd rather know I can stop a car if needs be by a handle attached to brakes mechanically... Something I just can't get my head around ...

Haha I'd forgotten that the one in the ad appears to do a handbrake turn at the end.

Thinking about it though it is quite handy to have the hand brake as a back up not just on the off chance your brakes fail but also if you encounter an engine issue that means the car stalls a lot, nice to be able to brake at low speeds and keep the revs up.

Should be a long time yet before any mk7's have any of the above though eh!!!!!
