Whole car misting up.
« on: October 30, 2013, 08:57:47 pm »
Hello,

I've always found my MK5 a bit slow to de-mist. Talking a good 5-10mins to clear the windscreen before setting off. But this morning was awful, even the dials on the dash and rear view mirror suddenly misted up just after leaving.

Has anyone else experienced this? Tried quite a few things. New Pollen filter, can't find any damp in the car, closing the vents in evening, silica sachets in the door card pockets etc.

Be interested if anyone has any possible ideas for a solution? Thinking of getting some Rain X Anti Fog tomorrow to see if that works.

Thanks!

Saintsteve

Try the Air con!  that removes moisture from the air and will clear the whole car in no time, that'd what it's there for, not just to keep you cool in the summer

^^^^ This.

My A/C is never off, I just adjust the temp' accordingly to my (or the occupants) requirements.

Normally moisture is in the car.
It helps to start by leaving some of those silicone bags in there.
Also drive round with the heaters on full but with the windows down and the recirculation on.
Eventually it will clear itself out.

If none of the above work you might have a slight leak somewhere normally around the door seals.

Have you used the top left button of the three climatic control dials for fast windscreen demisting?
Without traction power is nothing!

Thanks for all your suggestions, I will give them a go and also have a good look around the car at the weekend for any leaks/ damp.

Thanks! ^Yep, always press the 'windscreen button?' not sure of technical term for that button

A/C cures most ills Re: Condensation... however, moisture in the car (somewhere) is mostly likely the culprit for misting that won't dissapear.  It's also worth looking at your pollen filter to see whether it's completely blocked (easy job underneath the glovebox) :happy2:

First time I had this in the mk4 this year, but was really, really bad  :fighting: Really bugged me all the way home yesterday. I gave the door shuts and all around the doors a good wipe down as they were still wet from all the rain over the weekend.

No condensation this morning  :jumpmove:

I think B&Q sell quite large moisture absorbers. I think Penguin is the brand. These work really well.

Dirty windows inside really attract moisture as well.

Missus car had this yesterday, I guess because it was valet'd before picking up so will still be a bit damp in there at this time of year.

Put the climatronic onto the windscreen demist button and it was soooooo slow to clear.....
