Power died at full chatter!?!?!? :(
« on: November 01, 2013, 09:05:15 am »
Ok so this isnt the first time this has happened and there isnt anything obvious which i can find to be causing this problem....

Basically sitting at full chat coming onto the motorway this morning the power just died, as if I had lifted off. I was in 6th at about 80+ and all power just vanished

There is still some drive avaliable, but it feel to me like the boost is gone. The revs are consistent so it isnt the clutch slipping. A bit clueless now  :stupid:

After taking it easy for a mile or two the power comes back... full boost, full power, exhaust livens up... back to normal?! Anyone else had similar issues??

Check a hose hasn't popped off... Could be the Throttle body died, but that would flag an EPC light on the dash.

The hoses are all still attached... recently fitted an s3 cooler and change all the hoses as well.

The only warning light on the dash is for the exhaust due to the de-cat... ran a diagnostics on the vagcom and found nothing either :(

Check your cam follower mate! Mine was losing power intermittently. Took it for a cambelt & waterpump change & mentioned the loss of power because I thought maybe a boost leak & it was discovered my fuel pump & camshaft were completely f****d. Had a major service costing £1,700. Only had the car 6 months  :fighting:

car remapped?

I've experienced exactly the same problem in the past, and it was proven to be a fairly dodgy map requesting too much under full load.

^^^ If there is an overboost the car will go into limp mode, however you have to cycle the ignition to get back to normal.

Not in my experience - car needed about 15-20 secs of driving / rolling with no boost and then magically came back to life  :signLOL:

Yep it's mapped... the map did look pretty smooth on the rollers but does like the same symptoms!

No faults on the VagCom so I guess it could be down to the map. Worth checking the cam followers as well I suppose.

Arse collapses when it happens haha!

Spoke to the guy who mapped it... apparently because it piggy-backs the ECU, when the boost is massively exceeds limits it cuts all boost until it reads normal boost pressure and gives you boost back :)

The difference between a generic map in your driveway and going to Revo/ APR etc. ha!
