Jay's detailing Guide ^_^

Would like to thank Jay again for this amazing guide. I've always wanted to machine polish my car and get rid of the swirls/scratches but I've never had the courage to do it.  After reading this I bit the bullet and bought a Das6 pro, some hex logic buffing pads, some Menzerna polish and a clay bar kit (well gifts from the other half and my brother :p).

Picked up a bonnet from the scrap yard to practice on and I was really surprised how easy I found it. I'll be doing my car ASAP as soon as we get a good couple of days. 

Here's a few pics anyway :). Going to have another practice later.

It is wise like you have done if you are at all not confident then to get a spare panel to practise on.

what i would recommend is a proper light directed at the panel for good before and after shots, not only for the pictures but for yourself when working you can see what you've done to the car in terms of your correction and any holograms you may have left :)

Yh I see that you suggested that in your guide. May have to be the next item for my detailing list

A good light source is vital to being able to work properly. A set of standing halogen lights are very  much recommended for working on a panel at large, but then an inspection with a spotlight / flashlight is recommended. It would be good to have both a halogen (yellow) and LED one as some swirls may not be as visible under certain types of light.

Good stuff mate.
Any chance you could add in something about headlight restoration and polishing too?! That's one of the things that I struggle on so any advice/guidance would be great.
