Pirelli vs ED30

A few questions..

How many Pirellis are there? They seem much rarer.

Do they hold value like the ED30?

Am I right in saying the both are k04 equipped?

And... Which do you prefer?

Haha no mate this is a genuinely serious post. I'm pretty new to Mk5's and have done some research on these. From what I can find they made more Pirellis? Thing i hardly see them.

Just curiosity really as I like the Pirellis but there's none on PH so don't know what they sell for in comparison to ED30

Also, how desirable are they? I mean, is the Pirelli the definitive GTI MK5, or would you say ed30.

roughly one pirelli to every 10 edition 30's! but check www.howmanyleft.

not sure on the value aspect as they could hold their value better because rarer but on other hand they are not the 30th anniversary special edition so long term maybe the ed30 will hold more?

both identical mechanically, i prefer the seats and alloys on the edition 30.

They sold 222 Pirellis in to the UK market and are far rarer than an Ed30. It's a matter of taste as to whether you prefer the Pirelli over the Ed30, me I preferred the Pirelli hence why I owned one. :happy2:

I love the Pirelli, I also like the fact they are rare... I just love the Tartan, to me its as important as the red stripe on the grille... just has to be there on a GTI... thats why I avoided Leather when buying....

A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The Pirelli is rarer but the ED30 is available slightly older with pretty much the same mechanicals so can make them less desirable. And yes both K04. I think I read somewhere that the Pirelli has a very slightly different fuel system.
Practically the same car although nicer inside!  :wink:

An ED30 is potentially a cheaper way to get a K04 GTI, but if you want a really good one, be prepaired to pay for it!

Unfortunately we are talking Golf's here. They will depriciate and there is nothing you can do about it. Just enjoy owning it!

im not a Golf owner but if i was looking to buy a golf i would look in this order Pirelli-ED30-GTI

Rarest one for me is the most desirable

I looked at both before I settled on my Pirelli. Really happy with it and the fact that there arent many on the road make it a bit more appealing!!! The yellow stitching isn't at all that obvious but it does get nice comments from people who have never seen the inside. And those seats in the Pirelli? Lovely touch!!

Each to their own of course, but for me I wanted an ED30 - BBS wheels and tartan trim did it for me! Plus Steel grey...

I didn't quite realise the rarity of the Pirelli at the time - I tried a Pirelli first - trim was much better in person than I thought it would be, and I must admit the alloys really are a great design. The VW dealer that I bought my ED from had never heard of a Pirelli edition until I showed them.

I guess in time, the Pirelli is likely to become more sought after than the ED30 - like most VW special editions on a sporting model, I think that having a rare variant really goes down well at shows.

Both as good as each other. The seats in the Pirelli look the nuts though.   :happy2:

I've now added Pirelli on to my list of potential next cars...

So it's,

Pirelli GTI, ED30, MK6.

ED35 looks bland though :-/
