Manchester, do you think it could be a warranty job as I only just got the car and it's under warranty...

depends what type of warrenty u have I had insurance warrenty and wasnt coverd for it was a right load of s##t. So ended up paying forIit it would probably be best to speak to the place where u got it from. Even if they say that u need it diagnosing properly then might be best topay a garage to look at it, at least u can tell them what symptoms your having and where to look!

I read somewhere it could be the cambelt tensioner.

It does throughout all temps on idle, doesnt get any louder or quieter. Constant volume level. Cambelt kit is on my list of things to get done so will see.

Cam chain tensioner not cam belt tensioner, this is inside the engine

I had pretty much the same noise and read about the cam chain/tensioner issue on here. The chain is one the other side of the engine to the can belt to the right of the engine  as you look at the front of the car.

Had my local (and totally trusted) garage have a look. They took the engine apart, confirmed it was the chain and tensioner, ordered the parts from Vw and did the work.

No noise when done. They also did the cam belt and tensioner as it was nearly due and made sense for peace of mind and labour perspective.

Not saying it is the above but sounds similar.

UPDATE:

I spent all weekend in the car, as often as i could in silence, so i could hear any sounds.

Not a damn peep... car was as smooth and quiet as it would be brand new. Drove perfectly well and even had a Peugeot 208 GTi for breakfast.  :driver:

i have tested it hot & cold, with no other sounds other than the Climate control chugging every now and then.

so i have no clue what the ticking could have been at the time of hearing it.  :ashamed:

It actually started ticking again before.. It sounds like something is loose.. But I can only hear it from inside the cabin.. No idea what it is.

The heaters and climate control are all normally chugging away and this noise comes and goes but for long periods... No idea what it is.

Vcds says it's clear so I dunno..

Do a search for fuel pipe rattles - common issue for your complaint!

This is my actual sound now, after a good drive and on a warm engine only.

OOOOOOK

Rev counter is normal, doesn't dip lower or anything, but i have noticed that it does sound like it is revving lower and higher on its own as in hovering on a normal rev and a little lower rev. like breathing... that's the best way to describe it.. :stupid:

ill have a look under the hood tomorrow and make sure i look at all the pipes etc that i can get to, but i have no idea what this is.
