I too have had both, assy 2,s which I had fitted to my previous eddy and vreds on the current car, even had the GY,s on the current car as I swapped the wheels to see which to buy as I already had two vreds fitted and couldn't make my mind up whether to buy a pair to match the vreds or get a set of four of something else, in the end the vreds won out but only because of A: I didn't want to nick the wheels of my other eddy because they had been refurbed and B: made more financial sense to buy just a pair.
At the time the vreds were quieter, but only by a nads, the GY,s seemed more confidence inspiring and looked better, However to be honest neither were anything more than decent mid price tyres for general driving use, of the two, if you rag it then its GY's every time imo.
However.... now I have lived with the vreds for 17k miles I wouldn't buy or recommend them again, agree with some of the above comments that after 50% worn they are now quite noisy and have lost quite a bit of grip ( which is understandable ),
When I come to buy again it will be neither of those two, it will be a Michelin without any hesitation, but I will add that a customer of mine has Dunlop sport maxx RT's on a merc In our 224/40/18 size and they are up there with the best aswell.
My advice to you having been in your situation is to buy whatever pair of tyres that you would like to have all four of in the future and buy the best you can afford, so if you can stretch to a Premium brand then go for it.
