I went into VW Portsmouth yesterday to get a new higher level brake light.
Gave the part number and was said it is no longer being made and if I wanted it, it would take 2 weeks to sort for me. We tried other dealers and they equally did have any stock. Slight contradiction in itself but 2 weeks with no guarantee of arrival.
I questioned this as the mk5 isn't exactly old 'yet', but the response for the parts guy was "it's not a legal requirement to have it, you only need the two sides". Technically corrct by the type approval I'm pretty sure includes the higher level light, so therefore needs to be working, unless I take it out. Also the mot is due soon but that won't be an issue - although it taking it out would see it pass.
Are they talking rubbish? I can't believe that such a part is no longer available, and it is available on eBay/internet.
Anyone know different as it's just an invitation to problems!
