Dodgy Dyno Graph
« on: November 08, 2013, 05:16:59 pm »
Hi all,

I had my Golf on a RR today and was a bit disappointed with the results.
The max engine HP was only 173bhp so 25 down from standard. The graph seemed consistent with most other turbod car graphs I've seen however it's very bumpy throughout the higher rev range.

The car has done 157,000 miles but has full service history.

The spikes are not noticeable under driving conditions and the power delivery feels fine but very linear.

Before the RR I had a little play with my mates standard Cooper S and they are neck and neck which surprised me as well

Are there any issues which would be consistent with these problems?

Thanks

Ben

Ps I will get a pic of the graph up over the weekend.

I'll check the DV tomorrow.

Standard 95 fuel

No idea about the cam follower. Any way of checking this?

Thanks for the quick response.

Honestly mate, I would put checking your cam follower high on your agenda... if it hasn't been done in ~160k I'd wager it's almost completely fooked and your cam not far behind.  Less than £30 part from a dealer
or ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Fuel-Pump-Cam-Follower-Tappet-2-0-TFSI-MK5-Golf-GTI-06D109309C-/400600747031?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d45aa4c17

Take the HPFP (High pressure fuel pump) off and you can see it, there's a how here: http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102858
Note: Don't open drivers door this primes the fuel pump.

95 RON isn't going to be getting the best power from the motor.

Just been reading guides on it now. Didn't realise it was such an issue!

I'll get it stripped down tomorrow to check!

Thanks again.

I'll keep you updated.

Good man... your saving grace is the car is standard, and the followers wear A LOT quicker on tuned motors - when new they have a hardened black coating which gets worn away then pits, then creates a hole... for all sorts of nasty shizzle.

Here's some stages:

Get the follower replaced, change the DV to Revision G, whack some nice Tesco 99 / vPower fuel in there and try again. :happy2:

Definitely change the Diverter Valve to a Recision G and get a new Cam Follower ASAP, check/change the PCV Valve (latest revision is N) and have a look at the Coilpacks.

As mentioned run your car on 99RON from now on, can only be a positive.

Hi all.
The follower looks perfect as does the cam and the pump!

The diverter valve on the other hand.... Holes in the diaphragm.

Where's the best place to get one over the weekend or am I going to have to wait until Monday?

Thanks

Ben

Follower must have been replaced, there's no way in 160k it would be perfect.  Great news though matey!  Now you can get the ball rolling...

Re: DV is your local VW parts desk open on the weekend?  They usually stock them.  Or a decent VW independant may have one too. :happy2:

Then map it

Cam looks great - i'd replace that follower though; as you say it's not half bad and amazing if it's the original must have been driven by miss daisy :happy2:

Well that's a great result overall for you mate, I'm confident you'll find some, if not all of those ponies back once you get a new DV in there. :pomppomp: Good work! :happy2:

While you're at it, I would also replace that glove...
