Buying another GTI
« on: November 08, 2013, 09:56:57 pm »
Owned a high spec tornado red GTI for the past 3 years. Absolutely love it.

Sold my old edition 30 earlier this year and still regret it  :sad1:
Brief spec:

Fully specked
DSG/carbon paddles
Bilstein B12
VWR F/R ARBs
VWR engine mount
Blue flame TBE
REVO STG1
WALK
Various other suspension parts

Replaced my edition 30 with an E39 M5. An amazing car and engine is a masterpiece. Spent too much money on her so think its gonna be a long term relationship.

Considering selling my current GTI and replacing her with a new car. My initial thoughts were an audi S3 as the eddy always struggled for traction on WOT. S3 looks wise does nothing for me though.

So I've went back to the idea of a well specked eddy & stage 2+ software & associated mods. Any options the car doesn't have I could remove from my current GTI such as xenons, highline etc....

Does it make sense to get another eddy or should I try something new with the S3?

I know S3 makes more sense for overall performance but it's a fair bit more expensive to buy than an eddy and looks wise is pretty dull

That's interesting, you think the R carries more of a premium than an s3? In what way? Depreciation from new? Interesting thought that an R is more sought after than an s3, although the market may be more saturated with s3's surely given the choice most people would choose the Audi? Not questioning you at all, just interested.

Big turbo on the GTI and source parts for AWD parts and have them fitted.. Best of both worlds and the look on peoples faces when you pass them in their S3's and ED30's... Priceless

Perhaps I used the wrong wording. I meant that it is just more expensive to buy.

I interpreted OPs first post in he was saying that an S3 was more costly than an Ed30 and those two were his options. The R is currently significantly more expensive that the S3 in the secondhand market place. I assumed that OP would have considered the R when weighing up his car option  :happy2:

From a perception & quality viewpoint, I think that the Mk6 R shows just how far VW have come, and I think it's right up there will the S3. Given the choice (and money no object), i'd choose the R  :happy2:

There's a stage 2+ edition 30 for sale which has an LSD fitted. Think this would help but would still get fair amount of spin.

A facelift S3 with S-Tronic and in sport back form wouldn't cost much less than an R but deprecation on both would be fairly high.

I've looked into Golf R's and although very tempting it's still E92 M3 money. Obviously can't really compare the 2 but ATM think they are still a bit expensive.

Saying that, a stage 2+ R would be impressive

What you are after is exactly what I have for sale.

It's going back to standard very soon but would much rather sell it to an enthusiast as it is.

It's going to be such a shame to put it back to standard. The car has a special feel about it in its current form, like it has been made perfect and its how I think they should have come fr the factory.

Tinytim. Seen your Pirelli but decided I wanna go DSG like my prev eddy.

Think a facelift S3 sport back S-Tronic maybe on the cards
