Mk5 gti exhaust onto a 1.9 tdi

I imagine this question has been asked and discussed a million times!

As the title, is this simple enough to do? Just the back box part. Will it be ok for a petrol exhaust going onto a diesel?

yep its been asked once or twice :grin:It will fit but needs adapotor pipe that a exhaust place can make for you

You can cut two slits in the pipe and slide it over the standard pipe, then clamp it.

Long life can make you an exhaust for around £250

Don't bother putting a GTI exhaust on.
The pipes (tops) are still really small and it will be quieter than a TDI as the 1.9 TDI only has the one backbox - at the rear of the car. It'd be better, and cheaper, to go to a local custom exhaust shop and have them put some bigger tailpipes on..
I had a Piper Catback on my old car which comes with a lifetime warranty.

Easy and well worth it for a subtle improvement to the back end.

The difference in bore between a 1.9 diesel and a GTI is quite a step, so cutting slits in it would probably require an intermediate piece to bridge the gap, or much easier would be a custom made reducer sleeve which is about £10 on ebay and made to your dimensions.

You mean extend the existing hidden pipes jay?

Yes they can either chop off the exhaust from where the rear section joins onto the downpipe (so a cat back) or cut off the hidden pipes and weld on two new pipes.

Either option would be cheaper than putting a GTI exhaust on
GTI exhausts on TDIs are honestly such a big waste of time and money.

Cheers bud, it's purely just for looks so wana be cheap as poss! Will need a gti valance too!
