R-Tech Remap - What power gains are expected?

Hi All,

I have been looking at insurance quotes today and wanted to know what gains could be had from a Stage 1 R-tech remap on both a GTi and an Edition 30.

Confused.com gives you 3 options when it comes to performance increases, the top option is 26% and over, so for a GTi that would be over 252 bhp, and Ed30 289.8 bhp.

Would a GTi or Ed30 with a precat 'delete' and a performance panel filter with a Stage 1 R-tech remap reach or exceed these levels? Obviously each car is different, but from past experience what are you guys reaching?

You could ask Niki to limit the power to a more insurance friendly level if required? 

My K03 made 248.8bhp with a panel filter and pre-cat delete with an R-Tech map.

Was that on a standard R-Tech map or custom?

It will be very very close with those figures I'd have thought. If its a custom map ask Nick to keep it within your allowed insurance limit as all's good.

Thanks Guys - will run a few quotes, see what the premium difference is between less than 26% and 26% and greater..

So with the custom map, are you able to specify at what revs you want most of the power? (Never had a remap, not worth doing on my beast of a Lupo!!)

Could you for instance, say you want a map that gives major acceleration rather than greater top speed? Or even a more economy map?

Top speed is fixed and is governed by your gearing.

The power/torque dictates how quickly you get there

With a proper custom map you can explain how you want the delivery, and where you want the power (eg: punchy midrange or with a kick at the top end). Its down to the hardware of your vehicle as to what is achievable.

If you asked for 200bhp from 2000rpm all the way to 7000rpm from a stock K03 you will be disapointed though.

A linear map then.

That's what I have, an R-Tech custom linear map. Tis very good and usable in everyday conditions.

A yes indeed a linear map..now before I go for that, I should buy a GTi 

I should be getting one around this time next year if all goes to plan...forward planning

I'd look into a performance car insurer. Comparison sites are usually rubbish for mods.
