RNS 510 - Fitting the bluetooth module
« on: November 13, 2013, 04:12:01 pm »
Hi everyone,

I want to add in the bluetooth module to my RNS 510, but Iv'e just done some research on how to go about it, and it doesn't seem as straight forward as plug and play

Does anyone know of a step-by-step guide to follow? And what is all this coding about? I kind of assumed you just plug in the module and then update the firmware

I need as much info and help as possible, thanks a lot!

There are some guides around, I'll see if I can find one but I'm sure someone will. It is plug and play though just so you know - there are some bits that need coding to work fully - such as getting music streaming and info on highline - still need to get mine over I someone with vcds to do just that
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding

Thanks a lot, how does the coding work? What is vcds? Streaming music is pretty important to me!

Vcds or vagcom are what you use to change setting on the cars electronics

They are quite expensive to buy but lots of members here have them, there is a list in the vagcom area I think

Ok thanks a lot for the info, I'll do some looking around. Just searched ebay for vagcom and the cable is only a fiver, guessing the software is pricey though!

Don't be pulled in by the cheap ones on eBay - they usually dont work I'm told. You want official rosstech ones - cost over £200

Owch, that is an expensive cable! Well for the sake of a fiver I will probably try a cheap one first  :happy2:
Any luck finding a guide?

Thanks for all your help

Sorry one last thing, where does the module actually go? I'm going to take a guess and say under the passenger seat?

Came with the bluetooth unit, but somebody on here has posted a part number for the polystyrene casing. only a few £'s i think. Its got velcro on to hold in place. also I'm not sure if it fits under the under seat draw. i have an underseat draw passenger side so placed the bluetooth unit under drivers seat.
