Tyre advice on long term stationary car
« on: November 18, 2013, 12:56:57 pm »
Hi guys,

My car hasn't moved much in the last 18 months sitting stationary on its Michelin supersports tyres. I'm due to get the car back this week and I'm thinking that perhaps it's best one of the first things I do is change the tyres before any hard driving?

I'm concerned that the internal integrity or rolling radius could be comprimised. Or perhaps I'm being unnecessarily cautious.

I'm sure someone will on this forum will have the answer.

Thanks

They stand a pretty good chance of being lumpy. I would say give them a run but expect to replace.

I'd say if you have ANY doubt with the condition of your tyres.. Change them...  :happy2:

Change them, normally you're advised to store the car on stands or at least rotate the wheels around every so often. Especially if the pressures dropped.
I would suspect cracking as well.

They might be ok, you are supposed to over inflate if left standing. If they do need changing i would leave them on as it will probably be another two years before you get it back.   :signLOL: sorry couldnt resist.  :P

Trackday and ruin them. Well, if the engine lasts long enough, knowing APR's work and all.....

I jest, I jest...

Tough call, I'd drive it carefully and see, if there's any doubt, lob them.
Sideways yo!
