A big thanks to...
« on: November 17, 2013, 04:19:07 pm »
...my S3 brakes. They saved me and the Mrs earlier from what would have been a certain head on crash. Some cock in a BMW X5 decided he wanted to overtake a van, crossing a solid white line, uphill with a blind left hander which I was coming round. In a national speed limit aswell so would have been catastrophic if I wasn't on the ball.

I'm almost certain when he saw me he tried to accelerate even more to get by the van as he delayed pulling back in. I was fuming and very nearly turned round to give him a piece of my mind. f*cking idiot  :fighting:

Glad you are all safe!

Always better to have good brakes and not need them than to need them and not have them!

You got them front and back?

Good to hear - glad you both are ok!

I've never been a heavy braker (even on track!), but I always want something in reserve when it comes to brakes. I would always prefer my car to be over-braked than over-powered!
This is the next mod I am doing to my car - I have all the parts, and I really miss the braking that I had on my old 1.8t which had a full R32 set-up.

Again, glad to hear you are safe - there are some utter morons on the roads.

WOW, I can feel the tension there bud, been there a few times; even had to do an evasive onto grass once... it's crazy thinking back... swearing mid wrestle with a tailhappy car on grass/mud.

Almost hit a dog on a dual carrigeway once, pitch black, raining, outside lane... "hey there's something in the road", start slowing down... WTFFFF!!! it's a dog running towards me... very, very close that was... it dissapeared into the night... madness.

When you click up 20k+ miles a year you sure do see some shizzle.

Glad your both OK, I'm sure your brakes saved you there bud - my preference is evasive but f*ck me if it's the last thing you think about... it's all about putting that brake pedal through the firewall isn't it, lol.

This is what I hate about driving... I feel comfortable driving and reading the road and knowing how to right things if things do go wrong... But trusting other road users is where I lack any sort of trust.. Just takes one knob to do such as that.. And it's all over..

I now want a BBK...

Glad you were switched on!

Have never used my brakes in anger in my BMW 330D before until friday night (They were excellent), driving up the M6 with some young tool in an Astra sat on my back bumper for about 20 miles (traffic in front of me at 50-55mph steady) tapped the brake several times to get him to back off a bit (he was about a car length behind me!) and he duly did back of a bit..........

some 20 miles later he was still there getting close again  :stupid: so i tapped the brakes and he backed off again, no sooner had he backed off that the car in front of me (plently of distance ahead i may add!) slammed on, cue me slamming on, I came to a stop and looked in my rear view mirror and saw Astra boy careering towards me OBLIVIOUS! (I hunkered down in my seat awaiting the impending smash when he suddenly realised and slammed on his brakes (there was NO way he was stopping in time!), I could see the whites of his eyes (I kid you not!) and then he swerved round me (just missing the HGV in the middle lane) and came to a stop about 3 car lengths in front me!!.

That boy got a stern talking to from several drivers including me (The HGV driver was NOT at all happy).

Keep your distance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree more, the amount of times peeps load their cars with power, power, power and with no thought of how they're going to sto all those extra ponies.

Thanks to mine as well I didn't hit a div who thought he'd overtake without indicating, when he heard my car braking he stopped coming over.
First thing I did with my car was upgrade the woefully inadequate standard ones.
