Looking back we wish we'd got one with a camera, not because we were worried when he was small it would be brilliant around at the minute (he's 18mths) just to see what the hell he gets up to at night because some of the noises he makes do have you wondering!!!!!

We had the Tomy one without camera but with movement pad which we found really comforting, until he rolled off it and the alarm goes off.

This is the Monitor we have, a BT1000 Camera monitor.  It isnt an 'App' type item but for the money (£92) is very good even if the temp shows slightly higher than it actually is.  (I have another temp monitor in the nursery as well)

I initially went for a samsung one that could connect via skype so i could see the little one when i was offshore but that was no longer available so was sent an SEW-3037 was good for ages.. but the camera has stopped sending sound to the parent unit after 6mths.. not much use to be honest but its getting replaced so thats alright..

other than that its a decent unit!

As a new dad i thought i would add my bit.

We looked at video monitors, but decided againt it as

1, expensive
2, got to have a stable internet connection at home, so no good when i go visit family and friends where i sometimes have to stay in a hotel. or my mums place where she has no internet.

We decided on this unit which we got for £50 from home and bargins

http://www.boots.com/en/Tommee-Tippee-Closer-to-Nature-Digital-Baby-Monitor-with-Sensor-Pad_1180346?CAWELAID=761715074&cm_mmc=pla-_-google-_-Boots+Beauty-_-Beauty+-+PLAs&kw=%7Bkeyword%7D&cagpspn=pla

It is superb, simply to use and easy to hear the little one.

As for running up and down, well we have a moses basket in living room as well, so when she goes to sleep during the day she is in there. We only use her moses basket in bedroom for night time, so she knows difference from night and day. We only use the unit at night when she goes to bed. All babies will gurgle and disturb during the night and they will let you know when they are up when they cry, thats when you go check, and the occasional check during the evening.

No need to run every time you hear a wimper, but you will learn that from experience.

Good luck my friend.  :happy2:
