GTi Dsg fuel economy poor!

I'd be happy with 25mpg if it is round town.

My long term average over the last 25,000 is 29.3mpg, if i look at the figures for a period of town driving then its only just 24mpg.

Traffic and stop start journeys / short journeys make a huge difference to consumption.
I travel the same 12 mile route several times a week. A / B roads but with a town with lots of junctions and traffic lights.
Last week, at rush hour, with a cold start I got 22.7mpg.
Late at night, no traffic and the lights were with me, barely slowed down, but normal road speeds, I got 34.9mpg.
This is not a scientific test but more or less repeatable most days for me.
Cold starts, heated rear windows, heated seats, headlights, blowers etc etc all add to the load on the engine and fuel consumption suffers.
An easy 100 mile motorway drive a couple of weeks ago , in the day, saw 39mpg.....

Its a Gti just enjoy it and accept that its not a eco machine
If its economy on the top of your list then im affraid you have bought the wrong car 
Unless it drops drastically which could indicate a problem I wouldn't worry about it although saying all this my fuel light came on today at just short of 330 miles from a tank which I honestly dont think is bad at all for short journey stop start (occasional enthusiastic) driving!

Never tried it but I rekon 400 miles could be achieved from a tank on decent motorway run
Think the Gti is bad I only used to get about 300 miles to a tank on a motorway run in my previous mk1 focus Rs

The mpg really depends on the type of driving you're doing. I used to comfortably get into the 30s on longer journeys and could even touch 40mpg on the motorway. However around town I rarely got higher than 25mpg. Will be worse this time of year.

Thanks for replys , the Mpg is around town i just got back after doing town driving and it showed about 19.6mpg and that was not blasting it just driving smooth. there was a traffic so lot of stopping etc.

400 is very achievable on just my regular commute. Cruise certainly helps, as does just sticking to the speed limit, but where's the fun in that

Have you tried anything like BG44K treatment  in a full tank of fuel. Seems to be marmite reponse but this and the diesel version in my old TDIs worked very well.

My 2007 plate DSG GTI with 56k on the clock is getting max 32mpg and average 25mpg . Also run 17 inch alloys, i presume those on 18s will be getting worse. Also could your DSG be loosing you MPG through some sort of tramission loss maybe get a calibration reset done.

I have looked into getting this treatment into my car will give it a go , im alco looking at taking off the inlet manifold and giving the ports a clean.

BG44k is pretty good stuff.

I've given mine 2 treatments (before an oil change) and it's sorted my cold start roughness.
