Hi all.

The misses is looking for an audi a3 8p model.

Are the tdi engines in these the same as the ones in the mk5 golf. 1.9 and 2.0 tdi?

To my knowledge, yep they have.

You've got different phases of the 8P, 8P1 (2003-2005), 8P2 facelift (2005-2008) then the 8P3 (late 2008 - early 2012).

They all used the respective engines in the sister Golf, for example the 8P1 A3 & 3.2 Quattro had the R32 3.2 247hp block. The 8P2 A3 2.0 TFSI had the k03 GTI 197hp block and so on... Same for the diesels. For example my 8P3 A3 Black Edition has the same CR 170 TDI that the MK6 Golf GTD uses.

Get a plate check app on android/iPhone to marry up the engine and power on any cars you like the look of to make sure  :happy2:

Cheers for that pete.

Seems the audi 2.0 tdi early model has more problems come up then the golfs so I thought they were different engines.

Steering more close to the 1.9tdi.

Yes indeed, the earlier 2.0TDI's in both 140hp and 170hp had their faults, more so than the 2008 onwards CR units. That said, you can pickup a 2005-2008 2.0 TDI 140ps and be lucky. I guess it's luck of the draw depending on what's already been replaced on it and how it's been driven.

If you can, I'd advise an early 2009 onwards for the CR 2.0 TDI engine (which I've got) because I've had it 15 months now and it's been purely faultless. Stage 1 Revo on a manual too and it just gets on with it regardless how I drive it.

Depends on budget I suppose, but for the Mrs. I'm sure she'd find a 1.9tdi absolutely fine. I've not heard of any substantial problems with those but check the forums for peace of mind fella
