cruise controll
« on: September 14, 2009, 10:16:03 am »
right this is a really stupid question so apoligies before i ask but you know the cruise controll stick, does that only work if the steering wheel is multi functional?

i have the option on the stick and the switches for on and off but it does not do a thing?! i know this sounds dumb but i really am getting to the point where im gona lose patience with the dealer, still need to get a tyre changed as its ripped!, fog light replaced as it does not work?! and i have just discovered there is a crack in the front spoiler just below the reg place which i think may have been glued or something, i am not a happy chappy?!  :sad1:

Nope you don't need the MFSW
Someone will be along soon to correct me, but I think you need to get the car on a VCDS/VAG-COM to see if the CC has been coded to the car or is functioning correctly.
If its a faulty unit they are about £55 from the dealer, part only - still needs fitting.

Oops should also have mentioned cc only works at speeds over 20mph ish and car needs to be in 4th (i think) or higher.  Will disengage if you touch the clutch or brakes.

Don't know if this helps

You switch it on and then press the minus speed button to set it.

yeah ive done that, held the minus button for a few seconds, tried it by pushing it just the once, nothing happens, is cruise controll symbol meant to come on as soon as switch it to on? or is that only when you get the speed to set ?

It's not gear dependant, above about 15mph/20kph is adequate to use it.

Is the car new or used?  Is it factory fit or retrofit? Have you read the manual on it's operation?

Some cars had a faulty CC stalk, there was a bad batch a couple of years ago.  Other thing to cause an effect is the brake pedal switch.

The cruise control symbol should come on when you activate it by flipping the switch on top of the indicator stalk to on (i.e. before you set the speed)

nasir, the dealer is going to replace the tyre for me free of charge as we noticed it when picking the car up, shame i didnt notice the crack! lol its very hard to notice though......

er i dont wanna steal the thread here, but i thought it pointless to start a new one for a quick question, to those in the know... They are selling the genuine cruise kit on ebay for just short of 50squids. Is this easy to fit, or should this be left to the pro's?

Looks the real deal to me.  The fit will include some coding via VCDS (aka Vagcom).  VRSTU is the best to ask, as there is some compatibility issues with the Controllers.

oh and faheem, im sure the dealer will put it right. If they sold you a car with cruise control, you want it to work. its not too expensive if they have to fit you a new unit. Is it a VW dealership?

Yep that's the fella you need.

As above, once installed it will need coding to suit the car.  You need to have the correct steering controller but if yours is an ED30 it should be ok.
